Dialer Notice - "SameSite"

Some of our users have complained about broken functionality with Dialer’s iFrame CRM integration. We are writing this notice to explain the situation, and the actions suggested to overcome this issue.

Why is it happening?

The Chromium Project (which Google Chrome is based on) has declared Chrome Platform Status, which enforces a new Chrome 80 stable behavior, restricting 3rd party requests usage (iframe in our case).

Previously, all requests from the browser to any website included all cookies related to that website. This update brings a new behavior when only allowed cookies will be sent to 3rd party targets.

It means that if the domain of the page is demo.td.commpeak.com (in the address bar) and it wants to send a request to the google.com domain (iFrame in our case), the request will be sent without cookies related to google.com (unless they were marked as allowed by google.com domain server previously).

Developer Tool Console Warning: The Developer Tools console provides warnings when a page contains cross-site cookies that are missing the required settings, and it looks as follows:

NOTE

To open the console, click F12 on the iFrame page.

To resolve the issue, please perform the steps described below.

Step 1: Apply CRM changes

Since we are showing CRM pages inside the iFrame, changes can be applied on the CRM side only:

  • While setting cookies, CRM Server can set additional properties for cookies.
  • Cookies are being passed regardless of their parameters in case both websites share the same second-level domain. You can define an alias for the CRM domain as a sub-domain of crm.commpeak.com (SSL Certificate will be provided in case it is needed). Make sure that for the CRM, all links/includes/requires are relative.

Step 2: Change security settings in Google Chrome

NOTE

You need to apply changes for both types of cookies described below.

Cookies without SameSite

  1. Open the Google Chrome browser.
  2. Please copy the following URL: chrome://flags/#cookies-without-same-site-must-be-secure and insert it in the browser address bar.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Change the status from “Default” to “Disabled.”
  5. Relaunch the browser.

These steps are also described in the video:

SameSite by Default Cookies

  1. Open the Google Chrome browser.
  2. Please copy the following URL: chrome://flags/#same-site-by-default-cookies and insert it in the browser address bar.
  3. Press ENTER.
  4. Change the status from “Default” to “Disabled.”
  5. Relaunch the browser.

These steps are also described in the video:

Use the Mozilla Firefox browser

As a temporary solution, you can change your current Google Chrome browser, which you use to work with Dialer, to Mozilla Firefox. Once the change is made, you will see that the iframe normally works for your agents.

Use CommPeak App

CommPeak Dialer can work using an app (Windows/Mac/Linux). Anyone who downloads and uses this app will have the option to view the iFrame. The app is a bit different from the original Dialer page as the agents see it now. For more information, please let your account manager know if you are interested in the app.
